The village of Kiveri is part of the wider municipality of Nafplio and is relatively close to other notable places in the region, including Nafplio itself, Tolo, and Epidaurus. The tower was once referred to as "The Tower of the Princess" (Greek: o πύργος της Βασιλοπούλας). The locals claim that it was called after a princess who formerly resided there and who, because to her extraordinary beauty (or, as others claim, her horrible ugliness), had a tunnel made from the tower to the coast so she could descend covertly to take a dip in the sea. The remains the tower-and-court complex are located 500 meters south of the modern village of Myloi on a long, level spur, adjacent to the coastal road leading to southern Peloponnese. Because the former settlement of Kiveri was close by, the tower is today referred to as the Kiveri or Civeri tower. The modern day village of Kiveri is 6 kilometers from the seashore.
